ANTI-TPO: Thyroperoxidase Antibodies (TPOab, Anti TPO)
Anti-TPO is present in almost all Hashimoto’s patients, and 70% of those with Grave’s disease. The immune system creates an inflammatory response and destructs the thyroid gland.

If elevated, this would mean that the proteins the thyroid are made of, that regulate hormones, are being broken down, leading to an underactive thyroid. Elevated levels require treatment to protect the cells and regulate the immune response. Antibodies are generally present for life, but they respond very well to naturopathic treatment. Remission of Autoimmune Thyroiditis is indicated if previously elevated antibodies come back within normal ranges.
